Dickinson County panel removes fixed $350 conditional-use fee, defers amount to Board of Supervisors
Summary
The Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4-0 to amend Article 21 so conditional-use permit applications no longer specify a $350 fee and instead carry "the most current fee set by the Board of Supervisors." The change was approved after staff and commissioners discussed who should set and update the fee.

Carol Pierce, chair of the Dickinson County Planning and Zoning Commission, presided as the panel revised how conditional-use application fees are set, voting 4-0 to remove a fixed $350 charge and specify the fee will be set by the Board of Supervisors.
Zoning Administrator Megan Kardell presented the proposed change to Article 21, explaining the administration of the fee and how the county handles updates. Commissioner Erica Schultes asked the commission to make the ordinance language refer to "the most current fee set by the Board of Supervisors," a phrasing Kardell supported as aligning the ordinance with county practice. "The application shall also be accompanied by a fee set by the Board of Supervisors," the proposed amendment states.
Pierce moved to adopt the wording change and Schultes seconded. The commission approved the amendment by unanimous voice vote (Schultes, Pierce, Lee and Menke). The change removes the literal dollar amount from the ordinance and delegates the precise fee level to the Board of Supervisors; the Board must now set and publicize the current fee.
The amendment applies prospectively to new applications under the county ordinance; commissioners did not adopt retroactive modifications to previously filed applications. The commission took no further action at the meeting on the fee amount itself — any specific dollar figure will be set in a separate action by the Board of Supervisors.
