Board hears progress on Symphony Web migration and LinkCat enhancements

Staff described training progress for the migration to Symphony Web, LinkCat public-catalog changes including OverDrive/Libby integration, a training freeze March 31–April 16, and that patrons who had opted into checkout history will need to re‑activate that preference.
Library staff and the director updated the board on the ongoing migration to Symphony Web and changes to the public discovery layer LinkCat. Staff said most data will be migrated and highlighted features of the new public catalog, including separate tabs for ebooks and print and the ability to place and manage OverDrive/Libby holds through LinkCat.
"All the data about previous checkouts will be migrated in some fashion, and each person's checkout history, if they have opted in in the past to storing their checkout history, will be migrated, although that'll take about a week beyond everything else," a circulation staff member said. Staff explained that patrons who want to continue storing their checkout history will need to opt back in after the migration.
Staff described extensive in-house trainings (including practice sheets) and noted a temporary freeze in tech-services edits between March 31 and April 16 during the cutover. The board discussed training locations and South Central's support; staff said South Central has provided promotional materials and scheduled training sessions in Wisconsin Rapids and other locations.
The director and staff plan to continue outreach to patrons using posters, small handouts and QR codes, and to publish clearer guidance for patrons about how LinkCat will interact with OverDrive and Libby. No formal board action was taken; staff will return with updates on training completion and the migration schedule.
