Summary
The board approved a license agreement allowing SES Environmental to access city property adjacent to 7305 Kennedy Avenue to sample soil and water for contamination from a suspected four‑year‑old petroleum release, per Hammond environmental staff.
The Hammond Board of Public Works and Safety on May 1 approved a license agreement authorizing SES Environmental to access city property adjacent to 7305 Kennedy Avenue to continue an environmental investigation.
Deborah Malone (speaker 9), appearing for Ron Novak, explained the agreement would allow SES Environmental to perform soil and water sampling to determine the extent of contamination from a suspected petroleum release at the nearby Golo gas station. Malone said the incident is not new and dates back approximately four years.
"The purpose of this license agreement is to give SES Environmental access to city property adjacent to 7305 Kennedy Avenue ... to determine the extent of contamination," Malone told the board. Hammond environmental staff recommended approval. A motion to approve the license agreement carried by voice vote.
Malone said the samples will be analyzed against applicable standards and, if residual contamination is found, the assessment will form the basis for remediation planning.
