Lane County adopts amended 2026 legislative principles; staff outlines 2027 priorities
Summary
The Board adopted the April 2026 legislative principles and priorities with a minor amendment; staff previewed 2027 focuses including public safety, courthouse funding, and federal advocacy items pursued on a recent D.C. trip.
The Board of Commissioners voted April 28 to adopt the April 2026 legislative principles and priorities document as amended (strike bullet 0.8 under the human resources section). Vice chair moved the order and the board approved it by voice vote, recorded as 4‑0 with Commissioner Farr excused.
Steve Adams, policy director, and Vanessa Cornwall, intergovernmental relations officer, briefed the board on the legislative committee’s work. They said the committee is refining focus areas ahead of the 2027 long session; top issues identified included public safety and community corrections funding, illegal marijuana grow enforcement, increased courthouse funding, jurisdictional transfers and state grant match efforts. Staff also previewed federal advocacy priorities discussed on a recent United Front trip to Washington, D.C., including funding for a Metropolitan Wastewater connection line, a stabilization center, and a microfilm digitization project being pursued with U.S. senators’ offices.
Adams and Cornwall said a revenue forecast in May and subsequent forecasts will shape the governor’s recommended budget and influence county priorities; staff cautioned that May’s forecast is expected to be weaker than prior ones. The board directed staff to return the specified human resources bullet to the legislative committee for language clarification and returned the amended priorities back to the board for finalization when that review is complete.
The order adopting the amended priorities was passed during the public meeting; no roll call vote with named tallies was read beyond the chair’s confirmation that the motion carried 4‑0 with one member absent.
