District reports CTE expansion, PLC progress and construction milestones

District administrators used the Feb. 25 board meeting to update the board on instructional and construction initiatives: CTE expansion, PLC implementation and capital construction milestones.
Dan Tedor, director of Career and Technical Education, presented accomplishments of the district's CTE program and emphasized efforts to expand Health Science course offerings and internship opportunities that connect students to workplace experiences.
Dr. John Balmer, assistant superintendent for HR and School Improvement, reported that Professional Learning Community implementation is at different stages across schools: some teams have moved beyond initial phases to implement common formative assessments and Tier 2 interventions, while others are still developing sustained systems to track student progress.
Dr. Gina Anderson and Robb Stanton provided a capital construction campaign update. Recent activity includes acceptance of construction bid packages for Elementary #8, completion of design development for Skyline Elementary, finalized educational specifications for the Secondary Innovative Learning Center and completed field lighting at Cavelero Mid High School and NLM5. Upcoming work includes bid packages for secure reception and special education improvements and schematic design for the Central Kitchen, Glenwood Elementary and Lake Stevens Middle School. The HLC gym project is expected to begin work over spring break and a groundbreaking for Elementary #8 is planned for April.
Administrators emphasized community engagement—an Elementary #8 open house and positive community feedback about new field lighting—and said planning and design work will continue through spring.
The updates outlined program and facility priorities that will shape the district’s capital timeline and instructional offerings in the coming year.
