Commissioners approve sheriff grant applications and several board appointments
The court approved the sheriff’s FY2027 rifle-resistant body armor grant and a peace officers mental health program application; it also confirmed multiple board appointments including Mario Reyna to a district board, Jose Leal to ESD No.1 and Joe Olivares to the Hidalgo County RMA board.

The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court approved two grant-authority items for the sheriff’s office on Feb. 3: authorization to apply for the FY2027 Rifle Resistant Body Armor Grant and the FY2027 Peace Officers Mental Health Program grant with the Office of the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division. Oscar Montoya presented both items on behalf of the sheriff; motions to approve were carried by voice vote.
