Commissioners approve sheriff grant applications and several board appointments

The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court approved two grant-authority items for the sheriff’s office on Feb. 3: authorization to apply for the FY2027 Rifle Resistant Body Armor Grant and the FY2027 Peace Officers Mental Health Program grant with the Office of the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division. Oscar Montoya presented both items on behalf of the sheriff; motions to approve were carried by voice vote.
On return from executive session the court also approved several nominations and appointments: Mario Reyna was nominated/appointed to serve the unexpired term on the Hidalgo Bridal District Board of Directors (term ending 12/31/2027); Jose Leal was appointed to Emergency Service District No. 1; and Joe Olivares was appointed to the Hidalgo County Regional Mobility Authority (RMA) board for Precinct 1. Motions carried and the appointments were entered into the record.
