Hays County adopts several November proclamations; GIS Day recognized

The Commissioners Court adopted a set of proclamations recognizing community observances in November. The court proclaimed November 2025 as 'Turkeys Tackling Hunger' to support the Hays County Food Bank, declared November as Military Family Appreciation Month and National Adoption Month, and designated November 19, 2025 as GIS Day in Hays County.

Representatives from the Hays County Food Bank, CASA of Central Texas and Foster Village described service expansions and volunteer needs. Lisa Young, the food bank's executive director, said the new ARPA‑supported facility allowed the food bank to serve roughly 50% more people, to distribute monthly meal kits and to add partnerships for hot Thanksgiving meals.

Nicole Douglas, director of development for CASA of Central Texas, thanked the court for the adoption proclamation and urged residents to use the DFPS hotline to report suspected child abuse or neglect; Jade Dimitri, CASA's community engagement manager, emphasized that reporting in good faith is appropriate and will be investigated by DFPS. Killian Sterling and other GIS staff described how GIS supports emergency responses, CAD dispatching and planning; the court praised staff investments and acknowledged GIS Day as an opportunity to highlight the county's mapping and data work.
