DeSoto County school board approves Pleasant Hill contract, substitute-staffing vendor and routine consent items

The DeSoto County School Board on April 16 approved a package of contracts and routine business, including a construction award and a substitute-staffing contract.
The board voted to accept staff’s recommendation to award the Pleasant Hill Elementary bid to the lowest responsive bidder identified in the packet and to enter a contract with Fort Conn LLC for the project. Staff told the board that seven bids were received and recommended the lowest and best bid; the recommendation was moved and approved by the board. Board members also approved entering the contractual agreement for the Pleasant Hill project.
Staff also presented the results of a request for proposals for substitute staffing services and recommended contracting with Kelley (Kelley/Kelly) Education Group to provide substitute teachers and related staffing. The superintendent endorsed the recommendation and the board approved the contract.
Other consent and routine approvals included personnel recommendations, pay and summer-assignment items listed in the personnel packet, and approval for the Fernando Elementary PTA to install and donate a marquee at the campus. A staff presenter told the board the PTA will fund and complete the marquee and then donate it to the district; the board approved the installation.
Board attorney and staff flagged a potential obligation matter and a property contract matter for discussion in a later executive (closed) session; the board also later approved entering that closed session to address personnel, litigation and residency appeals.
Votes at a glance: agenda and multiple consent/line items were moved and approved during the meeting; staff recommendations for the Pleasant Hill construction contract and the substitute-staffing contract were both approved by motion.
