Elmbrook reports improved midyear assessment results; science-of-reading rollout expands

The Elmbrook School District presented midyear assessment results on March 20 showing positive trends across English language arts and math, district leaders said.
Presenter Emily told trustees that AIMSweb (and FastBridge for K–1 math) data show growth from fall to winter and that, across grade levels, students are exceeding typical growth benchmarks. Emily highlighted the district’s expanded use of the science of reading in K–3 and the extension of training to K–8 ELA teachers as a key factor in improved early-grade reading performance.
The update also noted rising ACT composite results for the junior class and ongoing math program evaluation work intended to inform curricular pilot choices next year. Emily said staff will continue to build data literacy so teachers and leaders can apply screener results to target interventions and measure impact.
Trustees responded with questions about timeline and persistence of gains; one trustee observed that a third-grade cohort appears to be showing benefits from the earlier adoption of the science-of-reading approach.
Next steps: Staff will continue program evaluation, refine interventions and report back as results and pilot outcomes are available.
