Commissioners back 0.95-mill levy request for Board of Developmental Disabilities

Washington County Commissioners said Jan. 8 they support placing a 0.95-mill levy for the Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities (WCBDD) on the upcoming spring ballot.
President Charlie L. Schilling said he favors the 0.95-mill proposal and thanked WCBDD representatives for meeting with the commissioners during the past month. Commissioner Eddie D. Place said WCBDD staff explained that the mandated waiver match is increasing and that he supports placing the levy before voters. Commissioner Nohe expressed appreciation for the WCBDD employees' commitment and also said he supports the levy.
Tiffany Neill, representing WCBDD, thanked the commissioners for their support and said the board will meet Jan. 13; Robin O'Neal, also of WCBDD, asked the public for support in promoting the levy. Several WCBDD board members in attendance urged residents to back the measure. A visitor, Mandie Morris, asked whether the public will have input on WCBDD decisions going forward; Ms. Neill said the WCBDD will meet soon and that the board faces challenging decisions after a prior levy failed.
Commissioners did not take a formal roll-call vote to place the levy on the ballot during this session; the recorded outcome was expressions of support and a plan to proceed with ballot placement steps by the WCBDD as appropriate. The board adjourned at 9:43 a.m.
