Cherokee High School replacement and district construction projects reported on schedule

Capital outlay staff updated the Cherokee County Board of Education on multiple construction projects and the community engagement process for the existing Cherokee High School.

Mr. Morris, the capital outlay presenter, said final inspections and punch‑list work for the CTAE facility at the new Cherokee High School are nearing completion and ADA and life‑safety inspections in the main academic wing are underway. He reported the project is "on schedule and within budget." The district also is collecting community feedback on reuse of the existing Cherokee High School, with more than 35 faculty meetings and over 3,500 data points collected on nine common themes that include alternative school use, career tech, central office use, community center or partial sale. Staff told the board they will bring renovation evaluations, cost analyses and feasibility studies for the top themes in mid‑spring and into early 2026.

Mr. Morris also reported on other projects: River Ridge High School's TPA roof installation is complete and exterior brick installation is nearing completion with a projected April substantial completion; Sequoia High School athletics projects are advancing with foundation work beginning on a new field house and demolition scheduled over the Christmas break; Woodstock High School is progressing through inspections with furniture installation planned for late February and occupancy targeted for August 2026.

The board had an action item on the evening agenda recommending facility naming for some sports facilities at the new Cherokee High School; staff indicated the naming recommendation follows board policy and will return as an action item for consideration.
