Pine County recognizes two longtime employees and adopts corrections‑officers resolution

Pine County commissioners used part of their regular meeting to recognize two longtime county employees and to adopt a resolution honoring corrections staff.
Lori Houtsma, the Pine County assessor, introduced Karen Snumny, who has worked for the county for more than 32 years with much of that time in the assessor’s office; colleagues credited Snumny with institutional knowledge, certification and relationship building. Snumny spoke briefly, thanked coworkers and recounted fieldwork and challenges from her career.
The board also honored Laurie Plassel, who spoke about her 30‑plus years working in health and human services, particularly in the children's unit and as an SSIS mentor. Colleagues described Plassel as a steady presence and recognized her contributions to child protection work.
Separately, a representative from the sheriff’s office presented Resolution 2026‑20 recognizing National Corrections Officers Week; the board moved, seconded and adopted the resolution in support of corrections staff.
What’s next: The board adjourned after the recognitions and other routine agenda items including committee updates and scheduling changes.
