Parks staff outline summer programming, hiring needs and capital projects

Director (speaker 5) said the department is recruiting for a park supervisor and a senior maintenance worker and thanked crews who prepared athletic fields. He reported splash pads at Heritage Park and Canyon Falls opened May 1 and will run through September daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. He also noted the town council approved the design contract with BRS for the Community Activity Center expansion, and that projects the board recommended for 4B funding were advanced to council for next year’s budget consideration. The Peters Colony Memorial Park ribbon cutting is targeted for June 11.
Travis (speaker 6) reviewed recreation programming: Arts Festival at Heritage Park on May 9 (25 vendors and 12 performance groups), the department’s concert‑in‑the‑park series, and a rescheduled kids’ fishing derby on May 23. Flow Mo summer camps begin May 26 and were reported as sold out with 127 children registered. The Senior Center’s SIM program reached a milestone of 3,000 members and recorded 6,000 scans in the past month. Twin Coves completed and passed its Corps of Engineers inspection.
John (speaker 7) presented capital improvement updates: Peters Colony is close to completion with punch‑list work remaining; Shadow Ridge received roughly 4,300 additional linear feet of 8‑foot trail; Colony Park’s basketball court was removed and a new concrete court poured with an expanded footprint; Post Oak is out to bid with bids due next Tuesday; Chen Chapel bid reviews are underway, with a target council date of June 1; Amy Lane Park Pond requires dredging and potential liner work after survey results.
