Developer says Exit 39 truck stop back on track after engineering disputes
A developer told the Smyth County Board the Exit 39 truck stop project stalled because of problems with an earlier engineering firm; he said he has engaged Lumston and Associates and paid a new traffic consultant to restart work, with a preliminary traffic study expected by late May 2026 and site work possible in late 2026.

Ritz Sony, a developer of the proposed Exit 39 truck stop, told the Smyth County Board of Supervisors on April 9 that the project’s delays were primarily the result of problems with the original engineering firm and not with required government approvals.
