Because the originally anticipated charger would have been a level‑three unit with an estimated cost of about $30,000, staff pursued an alternate grant to obtain a level‑two charger to reduce the city’s cash outlay.
The council carried the introduction on first reading. The city manager said the bus delivery is expected by the end of 2026. The ordinance is not a bond ordinance but a capital appropriation from reserves; staff explained the typical grant reimbursement model—city lays out funds, then seeks reimbursement from grantors.
Council thanked staff and grant writers for securing additional funding to reduce the city’s direct cost for the charger. A final hearing is scheduled on Dec. 9, 2025, when the council will consider adoption.
