Wayne County accepts $75,069 in local stabilization funds to support food safety, hearing and vision services

Dr. Brianna Ecklesen presented the award and told commissioners the funds will supplement food safety programs (including supporting three environmental compliance technician positions), hearing and vision services and necessary software and outreach for food licensing and inspections. "This is our baseline," Dr. Ecklesen said when asked whether the allocation repeats each year; staff told commissioners the state typically provides a recurring allocation that the county can roll forward if unused.
Commissioners asked for historical context and whether 2024 funds were included in the presented table; staff said prior-year allocations had been set at the start of the fiscal year and the local stabilization allocation has been relatively steady. The commission moved and approved acceptance of the funds.
