The Plan Commission on April 13 approved a minor revision to the plan and method of operation for the Congregational Home continuing care campus at 13900 W. Burleigh Road to allow demolition of approximately 545 square feet and related site and utility improvements.
Planning Administrator Richard VanDerWal presented the request, describing the Phase 1 work to prepare the site for a possible future addition and noting that Phase 2 building work would require subsequent approvals. VanDerWal and staff recommended conditioning approval on replacing proposed cedar boards for dumpster and generator enclosures with materials consistent with the Site Development and Landscape Standards (brick, stone, concrete, or metal panels).
City Engineer Dan Erickson and others confirmed the proposed driveway relocation and site access changes complied with required separation distances and did not present a traffic-safety concern. Alderman Rick Owen and other commissioners discussed site constraints; Alderman Owen asked specifically about driveway alignment and Erickson said he had no concerns.
The commission approved staff’s recommendation in a motion recorded in the minutes; final site utility, grading, drainage, and stormwater plans remain subject to Engineering and Inspections review and a development agreement will secure required public improvements and easements.
