Sheriff Silver told the Clinton County commissioners on May 4 that he will ask the board to add an item to Thursday's regular meeting to hire an additional part-time deputy.
The sheriff said his budget already includes two part-time positions budgeted up to 1,000 hours per year and that the requested hire would not change his projected personnel costs. He described operational reasons for the request: covering shifts when staff are off, training or school, and managing days with high inmate counts in the courthouse.
The sheriff said the position is intended to preserve training and certifications and to provide needed manpower; he asked the board to place the hire on the upcoming agenda. No final action occurred at the work session.
