The Tipton City Board of Public Works voted to approve a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $2,523,538 for the Tipton baseball project, a staff presentation said.
City staff told the board the GMP satisfies statutory requirements under the project's build-operate-transfer arrangement and includes fencing and installation of sod on all three baseball fields; paving is excluded from the GMP and is expected to be funded separately with park funds. Staff also said engineering work required helical piers under dugouts because of poor subgrade, a factor that contributed to the higher cost.
Board members asked about vendor responsiveness on fencing and about options for backstop materials; staff said netting was offered as an option but was not selected because of cost. On playground equipment, staff said the equipment is not funded through the GMP and the city is pursuing sponsorships and partner funding, naming IU Health and the county foundation among local funders they are seeking to confirm.
A motion and a second to approve the GMP passed. The board did not record roll-call names in the meeting minutes for the vote; the clerk announced the motion passed at the meeting.
