Berkeley County approves multiple hires, step increases and 25 estate settlements; accepts will in solemn form

At its April meeting the Berkeley County Commission approved multiple personnel actions and estate matters brought forward by county offices, including hiring recommendations from the sheriff's office, step increases in emergency communications, and the approval of 25 estates for settlement.
Hiring recommendations presented in the packet and approved by the commission included deputy sheriff hires recommended by Sheriff Rob Blair: Sarah McCur, Bradley Howard and Austin Twimman (each listed at $59,187 annually) and Xander Ashton, Gregory Roberts, Brett Sager and George Toledo (each listed at $57,466 annually). The commission also approved a firefighter hire (Charles Thomas, $56,933, effective 2022) and a deputy clerk hire (Haley Dillo, $39,500, effective 4/13/26). Jennifer Swisser, director of emergency communications, presented step increases for Morgan West (to $63,611), Regina Miller (to $57,166) and a grade promotion for Danielle Ray (to senior telecommunicator, $60,224).
Will Lawrenson, fiduciary supervisor, asked the commission to approve 25 estates for final or interim settlement for April 2026; his office reported no written objections. The commission approved the estates by motion.
Later in the meeting Lawrenson presented a petition to probate a copy of the last will and testament of Ellen M. Parsons in solemn form; the will waives bond for the petitioner, Frederick K. Parsons. Lawrenson told the commission there were no objections, and the commission accepted the will in solemn form.
All routine personnel and probate motions were approved by voice vote; the transcript records motions, seconds and unanimous "I" votes but does not include a roll-call tally of individual votes. The meeting recessed following the business items.
