Planning staff described the project as a two-story CTE facility sited near the school courtyard, a gym expansion on the west side of the campus and a parking reconfiguration that will add approximately 426 spaces across the site to replace parking lost to construction. The project materials included site elevations, driveway modifications and landscaping commitments intended to screen neighboring homes.
A nearby resident asked council staff to clarify the exact location of the buildings and whether the additions would be in a position to affect traffic for adjacent streets. Staff explained portions of the school property are outside city limits and in county jurisdiction, but said the design moves many functions on-site and should reduce bus travel to off-site CTE facilities. The council emphasized the limits of municipal authority to deny a school district’s use of its property but said it asks school districts to consider neighborhood impacts and requested additional landscaping and screening where feasible.
Council approved the zoning change on a motion that passed 4-0.
