The presenter said the district had relied in the past on allowing certain funds to be spent after July 1 to cover summer programming; under the new timeline that flexibility is reduced.
Board members and staff discussed the implications for high-school credit retrieval and summer learning options. Staff said districts receive only an estimate early in the budget cycle and that the final allocation may be smaller than estimated, creating additional planning stress.
The board did not take a formal vote on program funding at the meeting but heard a request to track summer-program needs in monthly reports and to include the financial risk in upcoming bargaining and budget deliberations.
