Thurston County restarts hazardous‑waste reuse program for nonprofits

Thurston County public‑works staff told the Solid Waste Advisory Committee on April 2 that the county relaunched a hazardous‑waste reuse program aimed at nonprofit organizations.
Maggie Brown said the reuse program opened April 1 and will run through Oct. 31; participation is limited to nonprofits this season and interested organizations must make an appointment. "It is open to nonprofits only at this time," Brown said, and staff plan targeted outreach using the chamber's nonprofit network, email updates and photos of available materials on the county website.
Brown reviewed last year's pilot results — two nonprofit participants and about 40 pounds of material reused — and said outreach capacity was limited during the pilot. This year, the county expects to increase promotion and will share a web‑based signup and photo preview of materials so nonprofits can see what is available before arranging an appointment.
Questions from committee members focused on how to connect community nonprofits to the service; Brown said staff will provide flyers, social‑media assets and short key messages the committee and partner organizations can distribute.
