Wayne honors Police Officer of the Year and accepts donor-funded vehicle wrap

The City of Wayne on April 7 honored Officer Mohammed Alzi as the 2025 Police Officer of the Year and accepted a private donation to wrap a police vehicle in a commemorative 100th‑anniversary design.
Council read a resolution recognizing Officer Alzi for community policing, proactive arrests and de‑escalation work. The awards committee (department members and union representatives) selected Officer Alzi after reviewing three nomination letters that praised his willingness to serve and community interactions. The chief noted the officer made numerous arrests in 2025—including drunk-driving arrests and other enforcement activity—and described an instance in which the officer applied a tourniquet and saved a life.
Separately, Jack Demer Ford agreed to pay $4,520 directly to DBC America for the vehicle wrap; council accepted the donation and expressed thanks to the donor. The chief and council highlighted the wrap and a throwback patch as part of the department's 100th‑anniversary observance.
No council action beyond accepting the donation and adopting the resolution was required.
