The Ventura Unified School District governing board voted unanimously on Aug. 27 to approve second amendments to multiple executive employment agreements, extending contract terms and formalizing compensation elements.
The board provided oral summaries under Government Code section 54953 before each first reading. The superintendent’s contract was extended to run through June 30, 2029; the amendment includes an option, with approval, that would allow the superintendent to add up to 15 vacation days to the work-year calendar with commensurate compensation and to increase the number of contracted work days from the original agreement. Trustees moved and approved the item by roll call, with Trustees Frederick's, Rodriguez and President Peterson voting yes.
The board also approved second amendments to the assistant superintendent of business services, the assistant superintendent of educational services and the assistant superintendent of human resources, each extended by one year (each amendment described terms running through June 30, 2028, as read into the record) and containing similar language about a one-time election to add up to 15 vacation days. The motions were moved and seconded and each passed on a 3–0 roll-call vote.
Board members did not raise substantive questions about the amendments during the meeting; the action items were presented as first-read oral summaries pursuant to Government Code 54953 and each passed on unanimous votes recorded in open session.
The board’s posted motion language and roll-call votes were recorded in the meeting minutes. No additional fiscal totals were read into the record at the first reading.
Next steps: These amendments will be placed on the board’s consent or action calendar as required by the board’s practice for subsequent formal approval steps required by policy and law.
