Commission approves $15,000 supplement to close out B‑Line Trail inspection contract; trail user asks for gravel shoulder repairs

Roy Aton, city engineering, said earlier supplements addressed wage changes and environmental remediation delays; this third supplement covers closeout hours to wind the project down. "This is our Beline construction project that's nearing its end... this last ask is for a supplement for $15,000 just to give us enough hours on the contract just to wind the job down and get us through completion," Aton said. Commissioners approved the supplement by voice vote.
During public comment, Joe Davis — describing himself as a trail user — asked the city to replace or add edge gravel (quarter‑minus) along the paved surface and larger aggregate at the edge to prevent washout and provide a safer margin for joggers and walkers who avoid bicycles and scooters. Council Member Pedmont Smith introduced herself online as the Common Council liaison to the RDC.
Next steps: CrossRoad Engineers will finalize closeout work and staff will proceed with required federal paperwork; staff will consider the public comment on shoulder gravel placement as part of ongoing maintenance planning.
