County CCI representative reports mixed results on bills affecting Elbert County

Dallas, the county’s Colorado Counties, Inc. (CCI) representative, updated commissioners on recent state legislative developments and CCI positions.

He said the county formally supported a bill aimed at modifying open‑records timelines but reported it was postponed indefinitely. He described HB 26‑1272 (referenced as an "extreme worker protection" bill addressing outdoor worker safety) as one the county opposed, and he said a bill that would have required local government approval for high‑voltage transmission lines — a measure the county supported and for which county officials testified — was defeated in committee on a party‑line vote. He also said a sponsor was expected to pull a bill he characterized as decriminalizing adult commercial sexual activity after broad opposition.

Dallas thanked citizens who testified and said CCI had taken unanimous support positions on some items; he urged continued engagement as legislation moves through committees and noted county involvement at the Capitol.

Commissioners acknowledged the update and moved on to departmental reports.
