Rangeley committee directs code enforcement officer to explore contractor BMP training series

The Rangeley Comprehensive Plan Implementation Committee voted unanimously March 23 to direct the town’s code enforcement officer to explore offering a series of training sessions for local contractors on stormwater and erosion best management practices (BMPs), erosion control and housing-related permit requirements.
Members cited recurring field problems—improperly installed silt fencing, inadequate stabilization and post-construction erosion—and noted that the state provides BMP training that could be scheduled locally. The motion (moved by Chris, seconded by Jim) asked the code enforcement officer to investigate logistics, potential instructors (state trainers or specialists), participant fees and scheduling, and to report back with recommendations.
Committee members suggested pairing the BMP training with sessions on new housing rules so contractors can get a practical, consolidated update; several members proposed hosting a regular monthly training series. The committee recorded the motion as unanimous and directed staff to include the training initiative in the next priorities memo to the select board.
