Council awards Kamera/Akran roundabout contract, aims for late‑August completion

Rosemount’s council approved the award of the Kamera/Akran roundabout contract to Eureka Contracting on April 7. The low bid of $2,571,979.90 was roughly 10% below the city’s cost estimate, and staff reported strong references and close competition among five bidders.
Public works staff said the overall project cost including design and management will be slightly more than $3 million. Dakota County will contribute a large cost share and the Metropolitan Council (Met Council) will fund a specialty sanitary sewer structure included in the project; the city’s share is roughly $1.3 million. Staff noted minor city utility adjustments not eligible for state aid and estimated those at under $50,000.
To shorten disruption and complete the work before the school year, the city plans a complete intersection closure for roughly three months rather than a longer, staged phasing. Staff will hold a public open house at the end of April to review detour routing, traffic management and business access during construction.
Councilmembers praised the accelerated timeline and staff coordination; the award passed on a unanimous vote.
