Janette Rankin Elementary students showcase school events and student leadership

Principal Chris Stevens introduced a large group of students from Janette Rankin Elementary who described the school’s events and traditions to the board and community.
"Everything we do is for the kids," Stevens said, framing the presentation around family engagement, school culture and student leadership. Students gave brief remarks about trunk-or-treat, movie night, Battle of the Books, the school carnival, a fourth-grade ski trip, arts-and-academics night and a planned field day. One student, Nora, told trustees she loved dressing up for trunk-or-treat; Blake McIntyre, a fourth grader, praised "Battle of the Books" and the school library teacher; several speakers praised the PTO-organized carnival and funds raised for student activities.
Stevens told trustees Janette Rankin is one of the larger schools in the district, noted the expansion of four‑year-old (EL) Trailblazer classrooms and described efforts to increase family involvement after pandemic-era safety measures reduced volunteer presence. He thanked families and staff and invited trustees to visit the building during an upcoming board visit.
Trustees praised the students’ presentations—Trustee Servy asked the students for details about the wax museum project and other trustees commended the children’s public speaking.
No formal board action was taken; the presentation was recorded in the board packet for community engagement purposes.
