Weld County approves partial vacation to separate residence from Front Range Feed Lots operations, 4–1

The Weld County Board of County Commissioners voted 4–1 on March 11 to approve a partial vacation (VAC26‑00001) of use‑by‑special‑review permit USR1654, allowing Front Range Feed Lots LLC to separate an existing residence from an adjacent sugar beet storage facility.
Lindsay Oliver of the Department of Planning Services said the request, received Jan. 26, 2026, was processed in conjunction with a family farm division plat (FFD2500093). Hannah Detro, a land planner representing the applicant, told commissioners the partial vacation would create a five‑acre lot for the residence and allow the storage operations to function independently. "We are requesting a partial vacation of USR1654 to separate the existing residence from the existing sugarbeet storage facility," Detro said.
Commissioners asked questions about current habitation and site photos. Commissioner Kevin Ross asked whether the house was currently inhabited; the applicant representative said she believed so but had not personally verified occupancy. Ross and another commissioner also noted the aerial imagery appeared dated and asked staff for current photos.
Commissioner Jason Maxi moved approval and Commissioner Lynette Pepler seconded. The motion carried 4–1; Commissioner Ross voted "no." Planning staff recommended approval and said the family farm division plat will be recorded before final approval of the vacation.
Next steps include recording the FFD plat and administrative completion tasks by Planning Services. The board did not receive public comment on this item during the hearing.
