Committee approves up to $3,500 for Northwest Oklahoma Youth Winter Rodeo Association

Shauna, who identified herself as president of the Northwest Oklahoma Youth Winter Rodeo Association, asked the committee for help covering a stock charge of $3,500 for the association’s upcoming event and said the group has quickly grown since it started in 2022.

“My name is Shauna. I am the president of the Northwest Oklahoma Youth Winter Rodeo Association,” she said, and confirmed that public admission to the rodeo “is absolutely free.” She told members the March rodeo currently has about 156 entries and that the association is the only one in northwest Oklahoma running a junior rough-stock (mini bronc) division in a junior rodeo format.

A member moved to approve assistance for the association “not to exceed $3,500,” and another member seconded. The motion passed on a roll call, with members recorded as voting yes.

The association also reported operational details and plans: it drew increasing entries in recent events, expects rough-stock to grow enough to require separating that division on future dates, and said it aims to keep event spending and contractors local. The association introduced Emtt Edler, whom Shauna said has been hired as a full-time assistant.

The committee’s approval provides the requested support; the association will proceed with planning for the March rodeo and follow up with the city as needed.
