Council members said they were comfortable with the planning commission’s recommendation in principle but wanted references and examples from nearby communities — several asked staff to contact Madison, which had recently completed work with the same provider.
During public comment, resident Jim Stoker urged strong city involvement in any plan and said state statutes require coordination with county plans and regional development commissions; he cautioned against a “boilerplate” product from an outside contractor. The council agreed it would be useful to invite a representative from the MVRDC to speak and to collect feedback from neighboring cities before making a final decision.
A motion to table the contract until next month passed by roll call.
