Fairview staff says new development code is in effect after Board adoption

City planning staff told the Planning Commission on April 14, 2026, that the Board of Commissioners adopted the city’s new development code on April 2 and that the code is now in effect for projects submitted after that date.
Staff said they are consolidating the code into a single document, preparing materials for the city website and conducting internal training so reviews are consistent under the new rules. Staff also announced that Nick Meek joined the planning office on April 6 as an associate planner and is reviewing the 470-page document alongside staff.
Commissioners thanked staff for work on the code and suggested staff reports should explicitly note whether materials are being reviewed under the old code or the new code during the transition.
Staff said the new code includes changes such as requiring traffic-impact studies for developments with 30 or more homes and developer-led community meetings for certain projects. Implementation and construction-plan reviews will follow the new code for submissions after April 2.
