Franklin Field nears completion; board approves two change orders and reports $365,000 in projected savings

Project manager Michael Martin told trustees the Franklin Field project is largely complete except for the track surface, which requires a spring installation window. He reported the transformer is set, Musco lighting ran for testing, perimeter fencing and bleachers are installed, and the concession interior work is nearly finished.
Martin said the district needs roughly a 10- to 15-day window in spring 2026 to install the track surface and said the project team has coordinated schedule adjustments and contractor demobilization. He also reported roughly $365,000 in savings identified in the project budget and an anticipated contractor allowance return of about $24,000 to the district.
Two change orders were presented and approved by the board in a single vote. The first acknowledges a contract time extension (December 2025 to June 2026) for Boyd Jones to reflect the delayed track installation; the firm is not requesting additional compensation for the time shift. The second, for Rams Construction, is approximately $21,000 and covers added sidewalks, improved egress around the concession area and preliminary paving to address water runoff near the upper playground.
The board approved the change orders 4-0. Trustees asked about roofing and sighting schedules; project staff said roofing sheeting was complete and that bleacher sighting work would proceed as weather allows.
District staff said teams will continue to coordinate around athletic events and that final savings/accounting will be provided as the project closes out.
