On April 8 the Oceanside City Council introduced an ordinance (first reading) to amend the city code and increase mayor and council salaries consistent with California Government Code provisions. Human Resources Director Chelsea Feebas told council that salaries set in 2016 had not been adjusted and that the allowable increase would move Oceanside’s compensation nearer the county middle of peer cities. Staff estimated the annual fiscal impact of the proposed adjustments at approximately $65,000.
Feebas presented comparative data showing Oceanside’s current ranking among North County cities and explained that the proposed increases would become effective December 16, 2026. Council unanimously approved introduction and first reading (5‑0). Several council members asked staff to prepare a parallel resolution to consider adjusting compensation for the city clerk and city treasurer through a separate action, and staff agreed to return with options for those positions.
Next steps: the ordinance will return for second reading and adoption; staff will prepare a resolution and cost analysis for potential clerk/treasurer adjustments.
