Recommendations and next steps: the task force proposed immediate actions (clear definitions, leadership guidance and initial professional learning), semester-long targets (classroom use guidance and educator toolkits) and longer-term work (an embedded AI dashboard and systemic procurement standards). Members emphasized the need for a common definition of "AI" for the district and said the group will send detailed, actionable recommendations to the superintendent and cabinet for assignment and implementation.
Scope and governance: the task force clarified it reports to the superintendent and cabinet, not directly to the board, and wants the board updated periodically. Staff said legal and procurement checks will be part of the vetting process and that the task force has been meeting multiple times since the fall as part of the district27s Ignite 2027 strategic initiatives.
What the board discussed: board members supported staff training, parent outreach (information sessions and clear communication) and standardized classroom procedures for teachers, such as requiring AI-screening checks for student-submitted writing and adjusting assessment practices to rely more on in-class checks when appropriate. Staff said they are building a web-based AI dashboard to bring tool outputs into the district data ecosystem.
