The Sutter County Board of Supervisors approved an appropriation adjustment of $45,000 to purchase a replacement vehicle for an investigator assigned to the unit currently called Net 5, which the sheriff said the county is dissolving and will reconfigure into a new special investigations unit.
The sheriff explained that Net 5 had operated under a multi-agency funding model for more than 40 years but recently had not produced the desired results; the county will prioritize more proactive, local enforcement and collaborate with Yuba City and Yuba County "as needed," while investigators will continue information-sharing and quarterly meetings. "We will be primarily focused here on Sutter County," the sheriff said.
Staff said the vehicle purchase will be covered by restricted asset-forfeiture funds and will not require general-fund dollars. The board approved the appropriation and the vehicle addition to the sheriff's capital asset listing by unanimous roll call. The board asked for clarification on future interagency arrangements and the sheriff said collaboration with Yuba County will continue on an as-needed basis.
