Parks staff brief commission on lifeguard recruiting, Rio Street sewer work and $5,000 park grant

Public Works Director Scott Noor reported that staff member Emmy secured a $5,000 grant from the Pascana Foundation Board to support Red Bluff Park Rehabilitation Project phase 2, earmarked for an art structure near the Willow Street roundabout and the proposed amphitheater. "Miss Emmy, she was able to secure a $5,000 grant from the Pascana Foundation Board," Noor said when announcing the award.
Noor also described the Rio Street Sewer project, which will run parallel to Rio through River Park, cut through Sycamore and affect the parking and drive aisle; staff expect limited road closures and will hold a pre-construction kickoff with a preliminary schedule. Noor said the city will notify nearby residents with door knocks or hand-delivered mailers and work to minimize disruption before pool season.
Commissioners noted recent community maintenance: disc golfers held a large tournament recently (reported as about 300 participants) and volunteers have helped maintain Dog Island, collecting trash and assisting with mowing. Staff reported ongoing efforts to remove a dilapidated restroom pad and to coordinate sewer work with park operations.
Staff updates concluded with routine park operation reports and a reminder that staff will provide construction schedules and notifications to affected residents and park stakeholders.
