Staff report: hires, summer programming and usage trends show stronger programs, mixed circulation signals

At the Fargo Public Library’s meeting, staff provided program and staffing updates and reviewed March usage statistics.
Megan (staff) said Christa Aldrich was promoted to a full-time outreach role; the library is interviewing for a full-time children’s position and a part-time IT position. Summer reading preparations will begin in June, and teen take-and-make crafts and an adult author visit (Patrick Springer) are planned. Megan also highlighted community events including a craft-supply swap on May 9 and a spring plant swap at Carlson Library, and noted the Friends’ book crawl later in the week.
Mark presented March statistics showing year-to-date attendance down 6% from last year but program attendance up 32%. Volunteer hours rose 12% year-to-date; internet signups were down 10% and electronic activity declined about 9%, while overall circulation was up almost 16% year-to-date. Board members discussed whether Sunday closures and busy Saturdays contribute to changes in visitation patterns.
