Board authorizes Microsoft licensing agreements for county IT

The Madera County Board of Supervisors authorized two information‑technology licensing actions on April 21 that staff said will extend and consolidate Microsoft product coverage for county users.
Ted Uesaka, CIO for Madera County Office of Information Technology, said one item authorized the county to acquire Microsoft 365 GCC licensing through the California Department of Technology service catalog for the multi‑year term described in the backup; the item listed an amount of about $5,016,634.98. Staff said licensing is charged per named user and that the county has just over 1,700 licenses in active use.
Uesaka also presented a related renewal through SHI International for server operating system, database and development licenses (including Visio and management tools) for May 1, 2026 through April 30, 2029. He said those licenses cover server operating systems, database systems and tools for database management and security.
"This will allow us to continue to use our Microsoft Office products," Uesaka said. Board members asked about license counts and 'true up' procedures for adding or removing named users; staff said they regularly recover and reassign licenses as employees depart and new staff are onboarded.
Both items were approved by roll call vote, 4‑0.
