Terresa Iikner told the Rules Committee that the legislative gateway — the online repository of legislation and exhibits — will be taken down likely on Wednesday and could be offline for four to six weeks while the vendor archives and remediates materials so screen readers and assistive technologies can access exhibits and attachments. Staff and internal users will continue to have access via credentials during the outage. Iikner said most council‑controlled pages are compliant already and that the work focuses on some remaining pages and large exhibit collections.
Why it matters: During the removal period, members of the public who need legislation or exhibits must request them through records requests instead of accessing them directly online. Iikner said the intent is to return a compliant set of documents rather than a partial or inaccessible archive.
