Commissioners report roadwork progress, urge work-zone caution

Commissioner Roark reported crews finished grinding on Piney Chapel Road and are setting culverts on Sweet Springs as part of preparations for paving in District One. Commissioner Turner said contractors are "over halfway through" the work allocated to them in District Two and that county crews have prepared two larger roads for contractor surfacing; he said the county is "ahead of schedule" on that work. Commissioner Gatlin said engineering and county crews are on Blackman Road this week conducting patching and leveling as part of a Rebuild Alabama project; a contractor will return later for final surfacing, and no exact date was given.
Commissioner Townsend described chip-sealing operations, the multi-step process of grinding and chip-seal application, and upcoming roadside spraying and bush-hogging; he advised residents who do not want spraying on nearby roadsides to post 'no spray' signs. Townsend also reminded the public that it is National Work Zone Safety Week and asked drivers to stay cautious around crews.
These project updates were delivered as part of routine commissioner reports and did not result in additional votes or directives at the meeting. County staff will continue to schedule contractor surfacing and coordinate spraying and cleanup work in affected districts.
