Bountiful appoints two to Power Commission, approves substation testing and replacement gear

The Bountiful City Council unanimously appointed two residents to the Power Commission and approved two items to support work at the Northwest substation during its April 28 meeting.

Jamie Tittenser, introduced by the mayor as a physics teacher at Vmont High School with energy-related classroom projects and participation in the Power Commission budget meeting, accepted the nomination and was approved; the council said she will be sworn in at the commission's next meeting. The council also appointed Jeff Thorp, who was unable to attend the meeting and was described as a retired finance professional who volunteers at the Bountiful Museum, to a four-year term.

Separately, staff recommended accepting the low bid for substation testing from Electrical Reliability Services for $74,925 to complete commissioning tests on relays, CTs and protection equipment at the Northwest substation; the council approved the contract, charging it to the capital project. Staff also explained that crews found weather-related rust on a pad-mounted switchgear can at the substation; the council approved a single-source purchase (PHM9 can from Herby) for $27,380 to keep a spare in inventory given a roughly one-year delivery lead time.

Council members thanked Power Commission members and staff for their work on the budget packet and the commission's review earlier that day; both procurement votes passed unanimously.
