Code enforcement staff close two code cases after property cleanup

A staff member said on April 21 that two open code enforcement matters — case 1058 and case 1824 — tied to the same property owner would be closed after the office received photographs showing the properties had been cleaned.

The staff member said the code officer contacted the owner and that pictures submitted earlier in the week showed the lots had been brought into compliance. "The property does look amazing. I drove by it actually this morning," the staff member said, and recommended closing the cases for now while reserving the right to abate if violations recur within six months.

The property owner told the hearing that they had hired someone years earlier to cut down trees and that cut material had been left at the curb. The owner also described recent health problems and surgeries that had affected their ability to maintain the property.

Staff offered options to address remaining debris, including contacting sanitation for a pickup (a separate pickup charge would apply; the amount was not specified) and noted that a recent community cleanup had already concluded. The staff member said the owner had been keeping in contact with a staff contact, "Briana," by email or text and that staff could connect the owner with resources if needed; staff also recalled a volunteer firefighter who had previously mowed the lot.

Staff clarified that the two case numbers relate to two different properties owned by the same person but that both matters would be considered closed for now unless future complaints or violations arise. The hearing record was finalized with both cases closed for the time being.

If the properties again fall into noncompliance within the next six months, staff said the office retains the right to abate the nuisances and pursue associated remedies.
