Page County engineer reports road work, J53 project letting and four bidders

JD King, Page County Engineer, told the board the county has been completing rock work on 200th Street, ditching ahead of the J53 project and removing abandoned field entrances to improve safety for the agricultural community. He said all snow equipment has been removed from trucks and crews are preparing for spring projects.

King said the J53 base stabilization and seal coat project was let today and that four bidders responded. He cited a bid from JB Holland for $1,612,200 (about $146,000 per mile) and said that, while per‑mile prices were slightly above some previous projects, bid participation has increased compared with prior years. King said he expects paperwork on the letting to be available at next week’s board meeting and that staff hopes to arrange a public hearing and approval of the DOT budget program on May 5.

Board members asked procedural and schedule questions about when the contractor will mobilize and about nearby ditching work (including work on D Avenue and a culvert replacement noted later in the meeting). King emphasized the county’s ongoing efforts to remove unsafe, unused field entrances and to coordinate base stabilization and seal‑coat work in season.

The engineer’s update closed with a reminder that paperwork on the letting and a draft DOT budget would be presented to supervisors at an upcoming meeting.
