New council member sworn in; Dana Middleton named mayor, John Kemp vice mayor

At the start of the meeting, Rochelle Litt was sworn in as a newly elected City Council member for Palm Beach Gardens.
After the oath, the council moved to appoint the mayor and vice mayor for the coming year. A motion to name Dana Middleton as mayor carried 5-0; the gavel was passed and Middleton accepted. The council then appointed John Kemp as vice mayor by unanimous vote.
Multiple members of the public and visiting officials offered congratulations and tributes to outgoing Mayor Chelsea (who was recognized for six years of service). The chamber, county representatives and residents praised the city's staff and partnership efforts.
Council members said they would seek to build on collaborative relationships with staff, residents and regional partners in the coming year.
