Valley View Local board approves contracts, Chromebooks, curriculum and transportation resolution

The Valley View Local Board of Education voted unanimously to approve a package of consent items at its meeting, including contracts, technology purchases, insurance renewals and a resolution addressing student transportation.

The board approved a one-year contract for the 2024–2025 school year between PSI to LLC and Valley View Local School District for services used by a student, after the board packet and supporting documents were reviewed. Val, speaking for district administration, said the agreement provides a required service for a student who receives those supports and recommended approval.

The district authorized the purchase of 260 Chromebooks from Dayton Cincinnati Technology Services to support the One-to-World program at a cost of $9,200. Val explained the district’s device lifecycle—Chromebooks are rotated on a six-year schedule—and said the purchase replenishes units that have reached the end of their planned service life.

Board members also approved EPC 2025 renewal insurance rates covering medical, vision and dental plans. Val described the Educational Purchasing Cooperative (EPC) as a nonprofit co-op that schools use to obtain competitive insurance rates.

A two-year contract with Shared Resource Center (SRC) for treasurer and financial services, effective Aug. 1, 2024, through July 31, 2026, was approved. Val said the shared-services arrangement reduces the need to hire multiple full-time treasurer staff, preserves internal controls by spreading duties and provides automatic backfill for specialized roles when necessary.

The board approved the purchase of the Amplified K–3 Knowledge Language Arts curriculum for $175,600, which Val said is on the approved list required by Ohio’s reading initiative; teachers reviewed options and recommended this program as the best fit for the district’s needs.

Members passed a resolution declaring transportation impractical for certain identified students, presented under the procedures of the Ohio Department of Education and referencing Ohio Revised Code 3327. Val said the district used a worksheet to evaluate routes and will offer parents a payment in lieu of transportation when the district determines running a bus route is impractical.

Finally, the board authorized renewals under the Ohio School Plan for property, liability, auto and pollution coverage.

All consent items were approved by roll-call vote with all members present voting yes. Several board members thanked staff for preparing the materials and noted the items were discussed and provided in the board packet prior to the vote. The board then moved on to superintendent comments and other agenda items.
