Resident urges Valley View Local to revise how homeschool grades appear on official transcripts

“I believe in this and I believe we can partner together with the school and make something happen,” Walton said, describing cases where homeschool grades transferred as a pass/fail indicator that caused confusion for college and technical program admissions officers.
Walton asked the board to consider options such as appending the homeschool transcript to the official record, accepting course descriptions alongside transferred grades, or otherwise finding a way to reflect students’ academic journeys so returning homeschool students are not disadvantaged in competitive admissions or honors calculations.
Board members engaged in follow‑up questions about legal responsibilities and athletic eligibility rules. A staff member noted that, by law, the district is the steward of official student records and that reconciling homeschool records with district transcript practices will require careful policy work to ensure accurate academic histories.
The board did not adopt a policy change at the meeting; members asked administration to bring possible approaches back for review so the issue can be examined with attention to transcript accuracy, college admissions practices and athletics eligibility.
