Broken Arrow board approves four principal appointments

Ms. Peterson, the district personnel presenter, asked the board to approve several principal recommendations, saying staff at the affected schools identified leadership qualities they wanted in future principals. "I'm coming to you tonight to ask for approval for Ms. Deidra Cleaver to serve as the principal of Oliver Middle School," she told the board and noted Cleaver formerly served as a teacher and assistant principal at Oliver. The board moved, seconded and approved Cleaver's appointment by roll call.

The board moved quickly through three additional recommendations. Ms. Peterson recommended Mr. Todd Great House to lead Oneta Ridge Middle School, noting his 18 years at Country Lane Intermediate and prior assistant principal roles; the board approved the appointment. She then recommended Leslie Officer for Sequoyah 8th Grade Academy, citing more than 15 years of administrative experience in Broken Arrow; the appointment was approved amid applause. Finally, the board approved Kim Archer as Sequoyah Middle School principal; Peterson said Archer had been integral in launching the district Virtual Academy and had served as Vandever principal since 2021.

Why it matters: The hires fill building leadership roles for the coming school year and reflect the district's stated effort to match candidates to staff‑identified needs for stability and instructional leadership. Each appointment was approved by roll call vote; newly appointed principals were acknowledged and given a chance to address the board.
